Definitions

We don't want you to get the wrong idea, so here's a list of the terms we use here at Rutter.

Platform

The storefront, accounting software, or payment processor. E.g. Shopify, Quickbooks, PayPal etc.

Connection

This is when a Merchant successfully authenticates with a Platform through Rutter. If a Merchant uses Quickbooks and Shopify, then that would be considered two separate connections. Connections are established when a Merchant completes the Rutter Link flow or the direct OAuth flow using our Create a Connection API. Each established Connection has a unique access_token, which is used to make and identify API calls.
